The Atkinson shortlisted for prestigious award

The Atkinson has been shortlisted as a finalist in the ‘Large Visitor Attraction of the Year’ category of the Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards 2021.

Southport’s home for music, theatre, art, literature and history has been recognised alongside other notable local attractions such as Liverpool Cathedral, Tate Liverpool, The Liverpool World Museum and Knowsley Safari Park.

The Atkinson’s marketing manager Charlotte Down said: “It’s an honour to be a finalist alongside such incredible organisations in Liverpool City Region. “

“The Atkinson works hard to present an engaging arts and cultural programme where residents, visitors and communities can be entertained, inspired, learn something new and improve their wellbeing.”

The museum and gallery space in The Atkinson is home to an extensive collection of over 3,500 artworks and over 25,000 pieces of social history, which are displayed on rotation. The Atkinson is also home to Southport Library.

The Atkinson is currently hosting exhibitions ‘Natural High’ and ‘I Grew Up In The 80’s among others, all of which are free to enjoy.

A large amount of investment has been poured into the amazing 19th century buildings to create a hub of culture right in the middle of Southport town centre, which attracts around half a million visitors each year.
