£3.4 million pound insulation scheme for low-income homes approved by Sefton Council

This week Sefton Council have approved £3.4 million in funding to help retrofit poorly insulated homes across the borough.

The scheme will focus on low-income households which have outdated or inefficient insulation. These households will then benefit from cheaper energy bills and warmer homes. Eligible homes will be identified in the coming weeks and months.

The funding has been received through the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and includes all costs of insulating external walls, cavity walls and lofts.

Cllr Trish Hardy, Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities said: “I am delighted to see this ambitious and wide-ranging retrofit scheme approved. The housing stock in large parts of our Borough is energy inefficient and schemes like this allow us to address those issues.

“These retrofits will have a positive impact on people’s finances and their personal health as well as creating local jobs for people here in Sefton.”

Sefton Council have already identified 50 eligible homes with local housing provider One Vision Housing.

This scheme is part of Sefton Council’s efforts towards net zero carbon in their operations and aims to cut emissions in the area.

Cllr Paulette Lappin, Cabinet Member for Regulatory, Compliance and Corporate Services added: “This scheme will make homes cheaper to heat, more energy efficient and much greener for our planet, making Sefton cleaner and greener.”
